Frequently asked questions

The ISTO Test is a multiple-choice test aimed at establishing the level of understanding a candidate possesses in respect of a specific ISO management system standard (e.g. ISO 9001:2015). It focuses not only on understanding the requirements of a standard but is also designed to ensure that those who pass the Test have demonstrated a knowledge of the underlying management system principles, respective definitions and the standard' s practical implementation.

We will offer the ISTO Test at Level 2 on the following ISO standards by April 2024:

ISO 9001 Quality management systems
ISO 14001 Environmental management systems
ISO 22000 Food safety management systems
ISO/IEC 27001 Information security management systems
ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management systems
ISO 50001 Energy management systems

There are three levels to the ISTO test. Different levels indicate the depth of understanding of the certificated candidate.

Level 1: the fundamental test to show you have an understanding to be a system follower and user of the standard. Coming in Q3 2024.
Level 2: the test offered for professionals, ranging from auditors, consultants and responsible persons.
Level 3: the most advanced test to show you are the expert in the subject matter. Coming in January 2025.

You may register for a test at the ISTO Test Portal subject to the availability of our Authorised Test Centre Partners. The Test will be taken at the locations specified by our Authorised Test Centre Partners, with options for time and date.

You may check out the ISTO Test portal for the locations of our Authorized Test Centre Partners to take the ISTO test. Sign up for our newsletter to see when your desired location is on the list, or drop us an email.

Level 2 Test of Understanding will be available in Q2 2024.

Please send us an email at sales@isto.ch and our team will get back to you in 2-3 business days.

There are two ways for your organization to organize the Test for your staff:
(i) Via an Authorized Test Centre Partner: you may direct your staff to sign up at portal.isto.ch and take the test at the location of an Authorized Test Centre Partner
(ii) Become a Strategic Partner and organise Tests at your specified location: see more on the ISTO Partners page

Currently, ISTO Tests have to be taken in-person at the locations of our Authorised Test Centre Partners or at the offices of Strategic Partner.

We are working hard to take this completely online with a lock-down browser and human invigilation, and aim to have this function ready in Q3 of 2024. Sign up for our newsletter for updates.
