ISTO provides the first of its kind Test of Understanding, a knowledge-based benchmark test that evaluates an individual's expertise on ISO management system standards and gives feedback through proprietary A·C·C·U·R·A·T·E analytics. The guidance below helps you prepare, sit, and make the most of your test.

Guidance

Guidance to doing well at the Test

A few simple habits make a real difference on test day. Read the guidance below carefully before you sit the Test of Understanding.

Best tips

  • Listen to and read all instructions carefully.
  • Take your time reading questions, and flag problematic ones for review.
  • Answer ALL questions. Blanks are always incorrect. There is no penalty for guessing.
  • Use the Candidate Comment Form to note any questions you find unclear.
  • No reference materials, books, or electronic devices are permitted.
  • No communication is allowed during the test.
  • No smoking, drinking, or eating in the test area.
  • Maintain a quiet environment throughout the test.

During the test

  • Try to complete all questions, even by guessing. You still have a 25% chance.
  • Use the feedback window to state any assumptions you make about unclear questions.
  • The time remaining is displayed at the top right of the screen.
  • One item appears at a time.

Special assistance

If you need an assistive device, notify your ISTO Partner at least two weeks in advance of the test.

Time management

The test clock continues to run during restroom breaks, and you cannot leave the building while the clock is running.

Test environment

The test is Restricted-open-book, except for a clean copy of the relevant ISO standard. Minor distractions and temperature variations are possible. Earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones are available upon request.

Your Results

Getting your results after the Test

Results are typically available within a week after the test, by email or by logging in to your account.

Delays of a few days are possible if candidate comments affect a pass or fail decision.

A 30% discount is available if you choose to re-take the test.
